What could be more romantic – or harmless – than a bridal shop owner/wedding dress designer? Especially in a small town? Mikayla has a perfectly ordinary life – until she witnesses a murder and sees the killer’s face. Problem is, no one believes her, and the entire town splits and takes sides.
Nikolai Steele is called in by the accused murderer to figure out why Mikayla’s trying to ruin him. Nik’s confused. If he didn’t know any better, he’d swear on a stack of Bibles they were BOTH right. Someone did something, because someone’s trying to silence Mikayla – for good. And Nik won’t have it. Because Mikayla’s the most…good and innocent person he’s ever met, and the thought of her…gone…is more than he can bear.
I love these two. Fantabulous character chemistry. It was great to see an Iceman thaw and start living again. It was nice to see a team of professional bass-asses support one of their own in his fall back into the human race. Nik has reasons for locking his heart away, but existing isn’t living. Mikayla shows him that – that living and feeling is worth the risk, worth the pain.
Awesome read, with a very intriguing setup of twists and turns and lies and misconceptions. A nice portrayal of small-town conventions.
